Cenni storici e sul territorio:

Campofranco, a tiny village in the province of Caltanissetta, was founded in the 16th century as a small farmstead which very soon became a prosperous village that was raised to the status of Principality. Thanks to the beautiful scenery the population grew constantly and was at its height during the early industrial era, with the Montecatini saltpeter mine and the sulfur mine at Cozzo Disi (both mines are closed today) as well as other minor industrial activities contributing to the town’s prosperity.
There are numerous local traditions, such as the celebrations in honor of San Calogero on the last Sunday in July with its traditional bread puppet fair and barefoot procession.
